Description
My experiments with matching images and text continue to produce surprising results, including this one. In addition to an early poem titled "The View from Where We Love," Rainbow Mountain was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's and Claude Monet's passions for working outdoors to produce creative impressions of landscapes and of nature in general. The original poem placed a romantic relationship within the context of a shared spiritual journey.
I thought about the shared journey aspect recently when hearing more reports of more hate crimes against various communities. I took some comfort in the idea that Love & Beauty in all their many forms have survived one atrocity after another all these centuries and undoubtedly will continue to do so. The following is the second section from the poem:
THE VIEW FROM WHERE WE LOVE
...At the bottom
I had started in stone boots
and forty-pound furs.
Half-way up, a pink wind
warm as an unborn spirit
pressed me teasingly
against a silver tree
of knowledge divine
and shredded from my limbs
the weight and skin of dead beasts.
Wrapped my knees and genitals,
my chest and face
in the cloak of a healing sigh.
Reaching the top
my stone boots crumbled
and I sat with crossed legs
upon a carpet of painted fire,
rainbows pouring through my hands
like sweet wounds of grace
bleeding a naked peace
for all this world to see...
