Description
It's been close to impossible this past year not to be awed by the billionaires who made history treating themselves and a few others to brief flights into space. I respect (and maybe envy a little) what Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, entrepreneur Elon Musk, and business magnate Richard Branson accomplished in the year 2021. But at the same time I couldn’t help thinking about all the wonders right here on Earth we have yet to explore or discover. This third artpiece, seen here, in my “Finding Shelter in a Circle of Gratitude” series, is an acknowledgement of those wonders.
The collage of images which comprise this canvas include golden-yellow sunlight pouring through the lush greenery of forest trees, red and blue-tinted clouds, and a fiery substance rising out of the Earth like lava exploding out of a volcano. Other rising forms could be either scientific (like space rockets) or spiritual (like souls or angels) in nature. I’ve been fortunate enough to live in ecologically diverse environments so appreciate the value and uniqueness of each.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Expressing gratitude for the “little things in life” as well as any “big blessings” is something I’ve always done as an adult and something many in the United States remind themselves to do around Thanksgiving time. It is also a practice which has helped a lot of people make it through the COVID-19 pandemic in the face of painful losses and restrictions. My 3-part “Finding Shelter in the Circle of Gratitude” art series is not a denial of the fact that coronavirus cases and deaths continue to occur in my homeland, with counts going down one week and then up the next. It is more an affirmation that life itself continues, always, to blossom and evolve in different ways.
The 3 works included in the series are:
Finding Shelter in a Circle of Gratitude Number 1: A Bouquet of Humanity
Finding Shelter in a Circle of Gratitude Number 2: Existential Creativity
Finding Shelter in a Circle of Gratitude Number 3: Meanwhile Back on Earth
