Description

The “ANGELICUS AI AND THE WOMAN IN THE MIRROR” fine art mixed media painting series began several years ago as a study in urban street photography. It evolved slowly in some major ways that now include digital painting, color photography, black and white photography, elements of AI (artificial intelligence), and collage. The edition seen here is in a square format and “Angelicus AI and the Woman in the Mirror Number 2” is in a larger landscape format. Separate detail paintings, not yet posted, are also square formatted.

I was curious about the incorporation of anything involving AI because there’s no getting around it these days. The year 2023 has basically been tagged the Year of the “AI Revolution” by some people, and the “Age of AI” by some others. My own phrase is the same as my recent book’s title: These Black and Blue Red Zone Days.

As an old school creative artist, my instincts refuse to allow me to rely complete completely on electronic programming. But I’m also an explorer who enjoys experimenting. So I provided the concept for a basic AI-generated form, then re-painted different versions in different styles with expressionistic splashes of yellow, gold, magenta, dark teal, blue, indigo, a sepia palette, and a B&W palette. The result, for me, falls into the realm of spiritual surrealism, inspirational AI, and a combination of angel art contrasted with social realism.

My hope with the online and offline series is that it captures something of the dilemma many people feel themselves experiencing as AI becomes more integrated into our lives. We know it represents both beautiful possibilities and scary risks. The challenge is how to maximize the potential benefits while minimalizing the dangers.
