Artist's Description
Long Purple Road to Elemental is a celebration of the dynamic creative spirit that gave the world both the Harlem Renaissance and the modern classic ekphrastic book: Elemental, the Power of the Illuminated Love. The creators of the Elemental book are two artists who both have direct ties two the Harlem Renaissance. Luther E. Vann (1937-2016), the visual artist, was a protege of renowned figures of the period. As a writer and historia, I co-authored Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance.
The multimedia collage presented here is a visual parable of how artists embrace challenges to produce art. Diverse styles of Images and colored text are employed to symbolize the poetic and visual components of the Harlem Renaisance as emobodied by individuals like poets Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks, and visual artists such as Lois Mailou Jones and Romare Bearden.
The piece was created to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Elemental and the 100th anniversary of the Harlem...
About Aberjhani
I was born and raised in the southeastern United States, then spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. Much of story is told in recent book releases like Greeting Flannery OConnor at the Back Door of My Mind and Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah. Artwork by me is featured on the cover of both books. My last 4 public exhibits were at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and during a cultural arts event in the historic Lafayette Square in the same city.
