Thank you very much for your visit & revisit VIVA. I appreciate your mention of the "heightened high key" because it represents my attempt to respect such women on their own terms rather than any forced definition on my part. Your insightful comments let me know I came close. Much gratitude.

The history has a profound effect to this day, Aberjhani, and here what I love, aside from your thoughtful testimonial/tutorial, is their color !! Such heightened high key, suits the women who's inner being and colours, outshone their 'other' contemporaries........and you've captured,created,re-created them as we should honour them.........and thank you for being always inspired, inspiring,informative,supportive...fine beautiful painting,backstory.......kudo,s f.v..............VIVA

Artist's Description

Among the discoveries made by students of history when researching African culture and history has been the prominent role which women have often played as leaders and warriors. That point was recently underscored in the blockbuster movie "Black Panther." The women of the Harlem Renaissance (1920s, 1930s, 1940s) were warrior artists, educators, musicians, performers, authors, and entrepreneurs. Their visions of what life was and could be in America had a major impact on the lives of many but they generally had to struggle to share their visions with the world and often paid very high prices for their achievements. More than a portrait of a single individual's inner conflicts, "Woman Whose Dreams Kept Hope Alive" is a painting of the paradox represented by individuals' desires to serve a greater good and the impulse some experience to punish them for it. By surviving such punishments, their dreams and visions nourished the courage and hopes of entire generations. Like the companion...

About Aberjhani

Aberjhani

After being born and raised in the southeastern United States, I spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. Much of that story is told in my recent book releases, Greeting Flannery OConnor at the Back Door of My Mind and Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah. Artwork by me is featured on the cover of both books. My last 3 public exhibits were at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and during a cultural arts event in the historic Lafayette Square in the same city. I am currently completing an artbook project on the COVID-19 pandemic with text contributions from writers around the world. My original Silk-Featherbrush Artstyle...
