Description
Psychologists and biologists generally agree that human beings are “hard-wired” for social interaction. That is a substantial part of why social distance policies implemented to combat the COVID-19 pandemic are so difficult for many to follow even though lives literally depend on it. A lot of our best entertainers around the world have been helping us meet the social distance challenge by streaming and broadcasting performances, news reports, and inspiring monologues and skits from their homes into our homes. The new reality has impacted just about every aspect of our lives. Including dating.
“Social Distance Date Night” is both my way of acknowledging that new reality and attempting to inject a bit of light-heartedness into the overwhelming gravity of the global situation. This Silk-Featherbrush piece uses a vibrant polychromatic palette to dramatize the observation that tragic situations sometimes bright out that which is most beautiful in human beings. Our courage, compassion, selflessness, and recognition of each other’s individual value shines through the dark of painful despair.
The layers of cool blues and warmer reds, oranges, and yellows flow back and forth between 2 tower-like structures shaped like capitol “H”s. The H’s might stand for Him, Her, Human, or something else. Most important is their mutual acceptance of a shared experience for which neither was fully prepared but which both are determined to make into something beautifully memorable.
