This is my very first SILK-FEATHERBRUSH ARTSTYLE print posted on Fine Art America and it has since become a collectible modern classic.
A rhapsody by definition is an exultant musical composition or inspired utterance that takes its form from energetic expression. Which is another way of saying it is concerned more with the uninhibited essence of a thing than its external restricted boundaries. Admittedly, none of that was on my mind when creating "Rhapsody in the Key of Joy and Mystery." But while doing so I allowed myself to enter into a kind of rhapsodic flow without expectations and felt more like I was improvising the composition of music than as if constructing a work of art. Therefore, the title of this art-print.
I may have been trying to imitate Jackson Pollock's action-painting style when I started erasing something and stumbled upon the beginnings of the Silk-Featherbrush technique and eventually full-blown process. The better part of a week went toward experimenting with how it could be applied to different image types like landscapes, portraits, abstracts, etc. "Rhapsody in the Key of Joy and Mystery" was one of the first to give some indication of what might be possible if I followed my creative instinct's lead and kept at it. So, those that follow will show something of the style and technique's range. Some see it as spiritual surrealism and some as expressionism. Individual interpretation is something I often encourage.
