Description
“Skylark, have you anything to say to me?
Won't you tell me where my love can be?
Is there a meadow in the mist
where someone's waiting to be kissed?”
--Song lyrics by Johnny Mercer from SKYLARK
THIS THIRD EDITION of “Secrets of the Meadow in the Mist” shares some of the same color combination as numbers 1 and 2, which would make suitable for mounting as a set in a single family home, hallway, office, or hospital space. This artwork suggests heavily the physical aspects of an abstract landscape with a mixture of flora, a dark pool of water with floating forms, a pathway, and luminous blossoms all created in authentic Silk-Featherbrush Artstyle. Coloration consists of strong blends of: rust, orange, green, indigo, yellow, red, teal, forest green, midnight blue, and multi-tinted pastels.
THE DIFFERENCE between the first 2 prints and this third canvas is their individual distinct forms. Each provides a visual interpretation and perspective of the meadow alluded to in Mercer’s lyrics. Number 1 shines a silver-blue light on the glowing skylark above the marsh meadow. Number 2 evokes the romantic mystery hinted at in the song lyrics with twin cones of polychromatic light in the center of floral and shrublike plant-life while a small illuminated figure looks on.
SERIES OVERVIEW: In his classic song titled SKYLARK, reportedly written for entertainment legend Judy Garland, composer and Savannah, Georgia, native Johnny Mercer asked this musical question: “Is there a meadow in the mist/ Where someone’s waiting to be kissed?” With my “Secrets of the Meadow in the Mist” prints, I would like to propose the answer is yes. Not only is there a meadow in the mist but it is teeming with a lush overgrowth of blossoming plants and varied forms of winged, crawling, and sometimes luminous life.
