Description
“Love as a concrete foundation for an authentically functional civilization requires the around-the-clock labors of forgiveness. Without it, Love fails, Friendship fails, Intelligence fails, Humanity: fails.”
― (from Journey through the Power of the Rainbow: Quotations from a Life Made Out of Poetry
Different forms of Love motivate human actions in different ways. There is romantic love which sometimes binds one individual heart to another, love for family, love of country, love for aesthetic beauty, and the powerful passion inspired by spiritual or intellectual ideals. In times like those experienced throughout the year 2020, some have discovered Love as a great sanity-preserving shelter. For others it became a source of compulsion to address personal concerns within public forums.
At the lower end of its spectrum of expressions, Love can become a form of extreme possessiveness, or delusional violence, which instead of producing affection or compassion encourages their opposites. At the higher end, genuine Love, I believe, inspires us to embrace and celebrate life. It helps us confront us adversity with courage, intelligence, and the will to endure.
With the artwork titled “Remembering Not to Forget Why Love Is So Important,” I have tried to capture a visual sense of Love at its lowest and highest manifestations. The resulting colors therefore flow from light bronze, bright shades of blue, pink, ,magenta, violet, white, green, purple, and yellow to darker night-time hues and shadows. The abstract movement here comes from the glowing figures going toward the triangular opening at the base of the Silk-Featherbrush pyramid and even brighter ones approaching from further away. I have an intuitively-gifted friend who would refer to them as “bringers of light.” I tend to use more technical terminology but also like her interpretation.
