For this B&W edition of Redbird Enjoying the Clarity of a Blue and Green Moment, I wanted to capture a sense of unseen dynamics which might be apparent to the sense perceptions of a cardinal but not necessarily to most people. Some may think that would be more easily accomplished with a wider range of hues and I don't deny that possibility. But I felt black and white provided more subtlety in that specific regard. It also presents a more definitive contrast to what I described as 'The naturalistic style of 'Redbird Enjoying the Clarity of a Blue and Green Moment' in the polychromatic edition.
Making the work a completely separate composition meant arranging identical elements in ways which emphasized angles, qualities, and general features not readily apparent in the color edition. The challenge was a good one. The end result is a 10th addition to the online Redbird Collection and one which adds something unique to it. After being born and raised in the southeastern United States, I spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. Much of that story is told in my recent book releases, Greeting Flannery OConnor at the Back Door of My Mind and Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah. Artwork by me is featured on the cover of both books.
My last 3 public exhibits were at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and during a cultural arts event in the historic Lafayette Square in the same city. I am currently completing an artbook project on the COVID-19 pandemic with text contributions from writers around the world.
