Description
This is one of the images I had created exclusively for my INCANDESCENT WONDER book of art and poetry but recent photographs and videos of wildfires in Australia convinced me the time to share it is now. It is done in the Silk-Featherbrush style I've been experimenting with for some time now. I believe it captures fairly well the sense of people and wildlife facing flaming destruction while also holding onto hopes for survival and recovery. The poetic term 'Ode' is used in the title to confirm the beauty that has been lost but which under the right conditions could flourish again.
Like millions who watched the 2020 broadcast of the Golden Globe Awards I was deeply moved by actor Russell Crowe's statement, read on his behalf by actress Jennifer Aniston, informing viewers he could not be there to accept his award because he was trying to protect his family from the raging inferno. The tragedy reportedly has taken the lives of almost a billion animals indigenous to Australia and forced thousands of people from their homes. It is much like what we've seen in recent years, though maybe worse, all over the globe: California, the Amazon Rain Forest, and Antarctica most quickly come to mind.
