Artist's Description
The most immediate difference between the mixed media painting seen here, “Henry Street Underpass Art Portal Number 2,” and “Henry Street Underpass Art Portal Number 1,” is the sharp contrast of the palettes. The first is dominated by warm tones of earth brown, gold, summer green leaves, and pastel-shaded panels with a unique free-standing installation image.
The second artpiece seen here goes in the opposite direction with deep shades of blue and violet providing the color canvas for yellow and white graffiti with an overgrowth of shadowed vines. It is also distinguished by a very different installation image designed to resemble multiple canvases similar to a triptych or series of reliefs.
SERIES BACKGROUND
The insertion of the term "Art Portal" in this series is important because it acknowledges graffiti artists' inability to resist covering the walls on either side of the Henry Street underpass with their art. It also represents my reimagining of the unde...
About Aberjhani
I was born and raised in the southeastern United States, then spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. Artwork by me is featured on the cover of both books. My last 4 public exhibits were at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and during a cultural arts event in the historic Lafayette Square in the same city. As noted on "Henry Street Underpass Art Portal Number 1," I like to think the giant steel X supporting the railroad tracks above the underpass makes a good symbol representing historical or personal crossroads. It’s one of those things that depends on the perspective which the viewer brings to their individual experience of the work.
