SERIES BACKGROUND: In addition to being known for their fury, hurricanes are also famous for their unpredictable nature. That unpredictability usually involves determining which way a hurricane is going to go before meteorologists decide they’ve got it figured out. In my recent encounter with Hurricane Idalia while in Savannah, Georgia (USA), I experienced a different kind of surprise caused by the hurricane resulting in some unexpected photography after it split what I believe was an oak tree in half.
Large limbs fell on electric power lines, evergreen shrubs, and a backyard shed. As amazed as I was by the destructiveness, I was equally amazed by the images I captured. I describe them as Abstract Nature Photography, Nature as Found Art, Nature as Artist, or Gifts of the Hurricane.
THIS FIRST GIFT OF THE HURRICANE is one section of a large fallen tree branch. It had a form of poison ivy vines growing on part of it with Earth brown and black bark crusted over by polych...
I was born and raised in the southeastern United States, then spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. Much of story is told in recent book releases like Greeting Flannery OConnor at the Back Door of My Mind and Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah. Artwork by me is featured on the cover of both books. My last 4 public exhibits were at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and during a cultural arts event in the historic Lafayette Square in the same city. I am currently completing an artbook project on different challenge which humanity has been facing in the 2020s, with text contributions from writers around the world. My...

Thank you very much for that VIVA. Hurricane Idalia has left me quite a bit to deal with so far as "recovery" goes but I'm accepting the dozen or so images of Nature as an Artist at Work as a kind of trade-off. Appreciate you greatly and looking forward to spending time in your gallery while the power is on (lol).

Nature as an Artist at Work is one of my favorite visual themes so I’ve been enjoying working with this series very much, even though the hurricane that made it possible was pretty scary.
