By definition, the word “flotilla” refers to a fleet of ships. In regard to “Flotilla of Candles,” it is used metaphorically to describe hundreds of thousands of candles lit and set afloat in honor of those whose lives have been lost to COVID-19. After being born and raised in the southeastern United States, I spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. My last 3 public exhibits were at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and during a cultural arts event in the historic Lafayette Square in the same city. I am currently completing an artbook project on the COVID-19 pandemic with text contributions from writers around the world.
