Expressing gratitude for the “little things in life” as well as any “big blessings” is something I’ve always done as an adult and something many in the United States remind themselves to do around Thanksgiving time. It is also a practice which has helped a lot of people make it through the COVID-19 pandemic despite painful losses and restrictions. My 3-part “Finding Shelter in the Circle of Gratitude” art series is not a denial of the fact that coronavirus cases and deaths continue to occur in my homeland, with counts going down one week and then up the next. It is more an affirmation that life itself continues, always, to blossom and evolve in different ways. The individual title for this first Silk-Featherbrush Artstyle canvas in the “Finding Shelter in the Circle of Gratitude” series is “A Bouquet of Humanity.” It comes from attorney Jerry Blackwell’s use of the term during the trial for the murder of George Floyd as he described the diversity of the witnesse...
After being born and raised in the southeastern United States, I spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. Much of that story is told in my recent book releases, Greeting Flannery OConnor at the Back Door of My Mind and Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah. My last 3 public exhibits were at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Art Gallery in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and during a cultural arts event in the historic Lafayette Square in the same city.
