Artist's Description
When you see a tree like the huge beautiful oak pictured here outside the First Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia (USA), it becomes easy to understand why I chose the title "Trees Down Everywhere" for one of the better-known stories published in Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah. Trees make up an important feature of the city's landscape and character so it stands to lose a lot if the current climate crisis continues to grow worse. But for right now, you will see them standing out in quite a few of the Architectures of Multicultural Faith and Devotion Series images.
First Evergreen has occupied different addresses on the East Side of Savannah since 1900. It now sits on Bolton Street only a few yards from the top of a small hill capped by the tracks of the Eastern Seaboard railroad line.
