Description
“Eiffel Tower Days and Déjà vu Nights Number 2” frames double-image silhouettes of the famous landmark within a polychromatic Silk-Featherbrush Artstyle background. The twin towers are both shadows and reflections of each other.
The foreground is colored with shades of cerulean and cyan blue to emphasize the flow of the River Seine beside the tower. A quilt-like patch of yellow, orange, purple, and red colors the lower left corner in homage to the diverse art movements for which France is famous: expressionism, impressionism, surrealism, etc. Crackling along the edges of the blue tower are sparks of creative energy.
The bronze gold reflection commemorates past victories and, possibly, hopes for future ones in the 2024 Summer Olympics. The vibrant background is a celebration of the joy which the city of Paris has brought to millions of visitors.
INSPIRATION BEHIND SERIES
A few months ago I saw the film EIFFEL starring actor Romain Duris as Gustave Eiffel, the engineering genius behind the construction of the iconic Eiffel Tower from 1887-1889. I liked it a lot because of how it dramatized the different kinds of passion that can motivate expressions of creative genius.
Then a few days after watching the movie, I saw news reports about people in Paris, France, protesting against President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to raise the state pension age from 62 to 64. Despite the conflicts, I thought of how the Eiffel Tower continued to stand as a symbol of democratic hope, individual freedom, and unity. I also thought about how welcoming France was to numerous Americans who during the roaring 1920s used to party with them in clubs and cafes to the sounds of jazz. Blacks and Whites alike enjoyed the fun but African-American jazz musicians were especially celebrated.
