"Bridges and Walls" is the fifth canvas in the Renaming the Eugene Talmadge Memorial Bridge Series. This image places the beautiful iconic bridge in the context of current public discourses concerning humanitarian crises caused by people forced to abandon their homes and depend on what the late great American writer Tennessee Williams described as "the kindness of strangers." Within the current public discourse, many valid concerns are often raised. We find ourselves at a crossroads in history where we are forced to decide on the best courses of actions. Do we build walls in attempts to insulate our individual lives from inescapable changes or do we build bridges in efforts to address humanity's collective needs? At present, people in different communities are responding in different ways according to the conditions confronting them. After being born and raised in the southeastern United States, I spent many years, while pursuing my education and serving in the U.S. Air Force, traveling around America and the world. Much of that story is told in my recent book releases, Greeting Flannery OConnor at the Back Door of My Mind and Dreams of the Immortal City Savannah.
