Description
FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER 2022
This is the second canvas in the “Birds of a Bronzed Audubon Feather” series and titled: Birds of a Bronzed Audubon Feather Number 2: Fork-tailed Flycatcher 2022. In Audubon’s 1833 original, the vibrantly-colored feathers of the Flycatcher are black, blue, and yellow. It sits between 2 large white blossoms with thick green leaves. The remake seen here sticks to the series palette theme with the bird and flowers glowing gold and bronze to suggest the timeless of Audubon’s work.
This canvas differs from the fist in this series because lines of script used to describe the original print have been utilized at the bottom of the interior panel highlighting the Flycatcher. The panel itself sits on a glowing bronze carpet of Silk-Featherbrush Artstyle bots. The upper background section of the artwork is flooded with the radiance of light pulsing from something which could be a giant star or a huge cosmic flower drawing the attention of the bird. However viewers choose to interpret the image, it evokes one way of considering how classically-styled art speaks to us over both time and distance.
NOTE ON SERIES:
Bird lovers and environmentalists around the world hold the name John James Audubon (1785-1851) in high esteem. When we look at the treasured body of his work, including numerous paintings and drawings of birds found in America, it’s easy to see why. Published within his1838 volume were 435 hand-colored engravings of 1,065 birds of 489 species. He is celebrated today as a naturalist, ornithologist, and painter. Because Audubon’s original works still stand well enough on their own, my goal with the Birds of a Bronzed Audubon Feather series is to create modern visual interpretations which pay tribute to his visionary artistry.
