Over the past few years, I have been repeatedly amazed at how entire communities have managed to first survive, and then somehow thrive after disasters like monster hurricanes, voracious wildfires, merciless earthquakes, historic floods, and devastating violence at the hands of fellow human beings. Recuperating has usually harder than easier but always admirable when accomplished. “Architecture for a Brand New Beginning” is a salute to the resilience of the human spirit which so often has allowed us to absorb some of history’s worst horrors and then start all over again.
The visual symbolism in this wall art represents the shelter people take in the form of compassion for each other when faced with overwhelming catastrophes. There are families within households but also entire communities and nations of groups and individuals outside those immediate environments. So seen here in a style combining abstract expressionism and surrealism with Silk-Featherbrush Artstyle. The different colors like onyx black, metallic teal, rose red, gold, purple, blue, tinted whites, yellow, brown and green represent more than what some call the “human rainbow.” They represent new potentially beautiful chapters in the story of our shared humanity.
MEETING CHALLENGES: The huge challenge involving surviving the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the need to express care through social distancing. That sounds like a contradiction but much of The Year 2020 has felt like a living contradiction and made people eager to welcome The New Year 2021. The good news is that it’s almost here.
