"Hope drowned in shadows
emerges fiercely splendid––
boldly angelic."

"Angelic Dispositions" is a fine art depiction inspired by architectural details from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on the west side of Savannah, Georgia (USA). People unfamiliar with the church are often surprised to learn it began around 1880 largely due to the efforts of the state of Georgia's first African-American nun, Mother Mathilda Beasley.
A central focus of its mission at the time was the education of African-American children and the church now describes itself as "a diverse faith community that extends its welcome to all who seek its embrace... Embracing and appreciating diversity forms the unique foundation of our parish and undergirds it with strength."
This image is part of the Architectures of Multicultural Faith and Devotion Series dedicated to exploring common ground shared by people from different backgrounds. The figure seen here is representative of the belief in angelic presences common to the 3 major religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) and even among some who don't think of themselves as religious.
This is also, as indicated by the quote at the beginning of this description, a potential candidate for one of the pages in my current art-and-poetry book-in-progress, titled INCANDESCENT WONDER.
